FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):

Q. Who may enroll in POCADEMY After School Enrichment classes?
A. Students enrolled at the Pocantico Hills School.

Q. How much do the POCADEMY classes cost?
A. Classes cost between $200-210 for an 8 week session (inclusive of materials, ingredients, licensing fees).

Why did class costs increase from last year?  Costs to operate the program onsite have increased, including registration, licensing, materials expenses and service fees.  Pocademy is a customized after school STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) enrichment program administered by Curiositas, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization.   Pocademy is sponsored by the Pocantico Hills PTA as a service to parents and families in the school district. With class costs maintained at the $25 per session range, both Curiositas and the PTA are committed to providing an individualized program of affordable enrichment classes for the students of Pocantico Hills School.

Q. Are scholarships available for POCADEMY classes
A. Yes, a limited number of scholarships are available on a confidential basis based on financial need. If interested, please contact Mr. McVeigh at jmcveigh@pocanticohills.org prior to Monday September 18, 2017. Scholarships will be awarded to families on a first come-first served basis. You will then be contacted directly by Curiositas about further registration information required once your application has been approved.

Q: Do I need to pick up my child at regular dismissal time?
A: No, students will be taken or go directly to their POCADEMY class. All Classes start at 3:00.

Q: What time is Pocademy pickup?  Can my kids take the 4:00 bus?

A. Students are dismissed from POCADEMY classes at 4:00.  The registration form will allow for four dismissal options: (1) parent or guardian pick-up; (2) school after-care program (which is a totally separate program from POCADEMY); (3) 4:00 bus; or (4) self dismissal for 5th grade and up.

NOTE:  ALL CHILDREN (IN ALL GRADES) ENROLLED IN 2017-18 POCADEMY CLASSES MAY NOW TAKE THE 4:00 BUS HOME FROM POCADEMY.

Unfortunately the Pocantico Hills PTA does not have the staff or facilities to care for your child after his or her designated pick-up time, unless they are already enrolled in the school’s child care program. Repeated failure to pick up your child on time may impact his or her ability to remain in the program and to sign up for future classes.  If your child attends the school’s after-care program, they will be taken there when their POCADEMY class ends.

Q: How are POCADEMY classes related to the after-school program offered at Pocantico Hills School?
A: Any other programs offered after school are completely separate. Please contact the District to register for the after-care program.

Q: What if school is cancelled on the day my child has a POCADEMY class?
A: The POCADEMY program follows the Pocantico Hills School District calendar. If school or after-school activities are cancelled due to weather or other reasons, a make-up session will be provided. Our calendar allows for one class to be made up per session. In the event of multiple cancellations where no make-up class can be scheduled, families of registered students will be notified and receive a refund on a prorated basis.

Q: My child has to miss a day of her/his POCADEMY classes. Can s/he make it up?
A: Make-up sessions will only be offered for days when the District cancels school or after-school activities.

Q: Where do students go for POCADEMY classes?
A: Students will be instructed to meet at a designated location immediately following dismissal. An onsite administrator will walk students to their designated classrooms. Parents of registered students will be notified with specific instructions for this procedure.

Q: Where do I pick up my child at the end of each POCADEMY class?
A: Students will be dismissed as per the information completed on the information form – Parent or guardian pickup, after-care at school, 4:00 bus, or walk – only available for 5th grade students or higher. SIGN-OUT for dismissal will be coordinated with the school security guard,  Parents of registered students will be notified with specific instructions for this procedure.
